Invest in Namibia Seminar

Stockholm, Sweden 2016

The Government of the Republic of Namibia will be hosting an international conference under the theme "Promoting Investment for Inclusive Growth and Industrialization". The conference will take place from the 8th-9th of November 2016 at the Safari Conference Center in the country’s Capital Windhoek, Namibia.


A preparatory seminar for the conference was co-organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Stockholm and the Swedish Southern Africa Chamber of Commerce. The seminar took place on the 13th of October 2016 at the premises of Ernst& Young AB in Stockholm, Sweden. The event brought together investors, Diplomatic Heads of Missions, researchers and those who were interested in learning more about investing in Namibia.


A formal welcome speech during the seminar was given by the President of the Swedish Southern Africa Chamber of Commerce (SSACC), Åsa Jarskog. During her introductory speech, Åsa Jarskog briefly explained their organization’s involvements in Namibia and other countries in Southern Africa Region.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia H.E Morina Muuoundjo also welcomed the participants at the seminar and said the event was an excellent example of partnership between the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia and other investment organizations in Sweden. The Ambassador also presented her country’s profile and also gave some of the reasons for investing in Namibia. During her presentation, she went through the target sectors which will be the key sectors for the conference in November. The sectors she emphasized on were; Affordable Housing, Agriculture, Energy, Logistics and Infrastructure, Manufacturing and Energy.


Swedish perspective of risk and opportunities for investing in Namibia was presented by Mr. Björn Olsson. Mr. Björn presented their business model of Lending, and using these Funds for the Swedish entrepreneurs. He also presented a number of countries in Africa where they have investments with an overall risk classification for the individual countries.

 

He gave a positive view of Namibia and that there was very low risk and encouraged investors to exploit the various opportunities Namibia could offer.


There was also an interactive session during the seminar where participants during the seminar post questions about Namibia, to investors and they all got clarifications on whatever doubts they had. A closing remark was given by the Ambassador who encouraged participants to visit the country’s opportunities and also to exploit the rich tourist product the country offers.
